Restore your Gut Health in Menopause with MyMTℱ

Do you suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)? Have you started feeling more bloated? Or do you swing between being constipated and having diarrhoea?
Maybe your brain also feels foggy? Maybe you feel anxious or depressed? Maybe your hot flushes are driving you crazy?

But, has anyone ever mentioned menopause?

If these health changes have arrived in mid-life, then I can assure you that your gut health, your symptoms and menopause are connected. And you aren’t alone. Out of the women who have done a MyMTℱ Program 57% have experienced gut health challenges.

‘Gender Medicine’ author, Dr Marek Glezerman, opened up my eyes to the incredible statistics about changing gut health in midlife and older women. His research showed that, in western countries alone, IBS is 4 times more common in women as they reach their menopause transition. I explain why this is, in the module.

Not many people realise that gut and motility issues are a common symptom in menopause, whether women are on HRT or not. This is because oestrogen plays an important role in gut lining healing and repair, but if levels of oestrogen are too high, or too low, then a condition called ‘Leaky Gut Syndrome’ may ensue. This syndrome may lead to worsening brain-fog, memory problems, hot flushes and poor sleep.

That’s why I have this incredible module for you. Restore your Grateful Gut is a stand-alone module taken out of the hugely popular MyMTℱ Transform Me and Circuit Breaker Programs. It is designed for women who are only struggling with this symptom, and need some support to turn this around.

The Connection Between Menopause and Gut Health

Hi, I’m Dr Wendy Sweet [PhD], Women’s Healthy Ageing Researcher and Menopause Coach.

When I entered peri-menopause I wasn’t prepared for the sleepless nights, incredible weight gain that I experienced, nor the bloating! I suddenly felt full even when I hadn’t eaten.

And so, my research journey began. The more research I did, the more I realised that much of the information we hear about gut health takes a ‘one size fits all’ approach.

But what I began to understand is that the lining of a woman’s gut is very different from a man.  Ours is thinner and is full of oestrogen receptors, so menopause affects the motility (or movement) of our gut as we start to lose oestrogen in peri-menopause.

Throughout our life, and more so after puberty, oestrogen has helped to keep inflammation in our intestines at bay. It does this by keeping the mucosal cells in the gut wall tight – effectively preventing us from developing what is known as ‘leaky gut’.

Furthermore, oestrogen helps our gut enzymes to work more efficiently. The role of enzymes in your body is important. For example, there are enzymes that help our digestive processes. When you eat that piece of meat, pancreatase works to help to break down fats and proteins.

But here’s the thing – when we move from peri-menopause into menopause the production of these enzymes is reduced. This affects the absorption and digestion of food as well as the health of our gut. For many of you, this may be also affecting your weight management and cardiac health as you age.

Did you know that there is a powerful connection between your gut health and...

Brain Square

Your Brain Health

Have you heard the term ‘our gut is our second brain’? Therefore, many symptoms that we experience in menopause, such as foggy brain, depression, anxiety and mood swings can be linked to the health of your gut micro-biome.

Tired Square

Your Energy Levels

The gut is responsible for producing up to 70% of our energy. In part, this is due to the fact that essential nutrients are effectively leaking out of the gut, and not being absorbed.

Sleep and Insomnia Square

Your Sleep

Our gut is on a 24 hour circadian rhythm, and so is melatonin production (the sleep hormone). By sorting out your gut health you are also helping yourself to sleep all night.

“You truly have helped me turn my life around. I’ve overcome a debilitating and sudden onset of allergies caused by gut health changes that led to shortness of breath and occular rosacea (meaning I can now garden and snorkel on the great barrier reef again – yay!)”

“Two months ago I had signed up to have an endoscopy to investigate what was happening with my stomach.  I had been having problems for two years and no doctor could work out what it was. A day before I went in, I decided to cancel it and try your gut program. Within a week I was symptom free and I haven’t had any pain whatsoever since.”

“Do you remember a time when you didn’t need to worry about the foods you were eating? I longed to have this feeling back too.

We all like to think that what we do is unique, but in the case of MyMTℱ I can honestly say that I have been there myself.

My health became my project and I set to work – reading as much as I could as part of my Masters and Doctoral studies about how to turn around menopause symptoms through working with our hormones, not against them.

That was over 15 years ago now. And now my experience is available for you too! While most lifestyle programs (and menopause supplements too) are not targeted at our changing hormonal environment in menopause, this one is.  By learning how to reset your hormones at a cellular level, you address the cause and not just the symptoms of menopause.

For decades menopause has been seen as a ‘sickness’ and often not talked about.  It is time to put menopause into wellness, not sickness.

You can read more about my story here. “
